Commitment to Customers Driving Force in Our Organization

Our commitment to our customers starts with their needs. Our Commitment to Quality and a customer-centered focus on our Ability to Perform are natural byproducts of this commitment.

Below are some of the ways we have put our commitment to customers and the power industry into practice:

  1. NEC pioneered the engineering and logistics to make vertical core restacks a viable alternative to a factory restack or machine replacement.
  2. NEC and alliance partner MD&A developed the best retrofit winding on the market for water-cooled windings
  3. HV coil production has been greatly expanded with more curing and finishing capacity for the large-scale and inner gas- and water-cooled stator bars.
  4. NEC's balancing facility has been upgraded to perform running electrical tests and heat runs, in addition to high-speed balancing.
  5. NEC took on the challenge and successfully refurbished one of the largest hydrogen-cooled brushless exciters ever built.
  6. NEC added new production capacity making high-volume refurbishments of synchronous rotor fields possible.
  7. NEC put considerable resources toward insuring consistent coil fit so that installations require no "field engineering." This has meant major investsments in software and tooling.
  8. Research and product development are ongoing and a part of NEC's drive for continuous improvements.
  9. NEC has achieved ISO certification of its quality managment systems for its manufacturing and service operations at both its Columbus, Ohio and Brownsville, Texas plants.

NEC's ISO 9001:2000 Certifications

Our quality management system at our Columbus, Ohio facility is certified for the "Design, manufacture and reconditioning of rotating electrical equipment and related components for the power generation industry." Our Turbogenerator Service Facility and other repair activities are located at this site, as well as our manufacturing operations for turbogenrator rotor windings. At our Brownsville, Texas facility, our qualitly managment system is certifed for the "Design, manufacture and refurbishment of high-voltage stator windings." Manufacture of high-voltage stator windings is the major activity at this plant.

Our Commitment to Customers Summed Up in a Simple & Uncomplicated Statement: CUSTOMER SATISFACTION IS No. 1

When all is said and done, all our efforts point in one direction, towards our customers. We can't claim to be super-human or infallible, but when we get off track, we re-focus on the principles stated below. When we have successfully achieved, many of our customers are happy to say so.

OUR QUALITY POLICY :

National Electric Coil and Rail Products International* are dedicated to being first class suppliers of electrical equipment and services to their customers.  We will continue to set objectives that promote continual improvement to the Quality Management System, control costs to ensure pricing that is beneficial to customers and company stakeholders, and strive towards 100% on-time deliveries. Ability to Perform to Your Standards & Needs

THE RIGHT RESOURCES FOR YOUR JOB

The successful execution of large or complex projects requires a company with high-caliber resources in every functional area and the ability to coordinate their deployment in a way that will meet or exceed one's commitment to the customer. National Electric Coil is such an organization. READ MORE about these resources.

EXPERIENCE WHERE IT COUNTS

NEC is an organization that greatly values the contribution of its engineers to design, manufacturing and other areas. Many of our functional area managers and senior management are engineers and have made significant professional contributions to both NEC and the power generation industry.

DESIGN ENGINEERING

Whether your generator problem is rotor toothtop cracking, rotor end winding insulation migration, stator end winding vibration, core looseness, or water-cooled bar failures, our engineers have usually seen it and provided successful design solutions in every case. Examples of this expertise are shown in the development of our program for Specialized Engineering Solutions™ and Technical Maintenance Memos™, which address specific design issues.

MANUFACTURING ENGINEERING

Our engineers supporting manufacturing operations are well-versed in all aspects of winding manufacture. A testimony to their skills is the speed at which they can adapt our manufacturing facilities to produce windings for these not-so-usual projects, without any compromise to quality or schedule. From making hydrogen-cooled stator bars weighing nearly a quarter ton each to refurbishing aluminum rotor windings, NEC has the people with the skills.

PRODUCTION

NEC has two manufacturing and service facilities with over 400,000 square feet devoted to the production of the highest quality generator stator and rotor windings. Production facilities in Brownsville can be configured to produce any type or size of stator winding, from conventionally cooled multi-turn coils to large inner-cooled turbogenerator bars. Our Columbus facility, which also houses our company headquarters, specializes in turbogenerator rotor windings, whether new or refurbished copper or aluminum, with conventional or inner cooling, including the diagonally and radially cooled types, along with the ability to high-speed balance and electrically test rotors up to 85 tons. READ MORE about our facilities.

QUALITY

National Electric Coil's quality program is well organized and open for customer audit at any time. More on our Quality Management Systems is found in the above section on this page.

SOURCING

Respect for our customer's schedule and budget drives our approach to purchasing and materials management. For those materials that are not manufactured at our own facilities, NEC utilizes an extensive network of preferred suppliers. Purchasing over $34 million in materials a year gives us leverage to negotiate long-term prices and quantity contracts and emergency shipments with these key vendors.

FIELD SERVICE

NEC employs over 50 full-time field service associates solely dedicated to on-site generator stator rewind and refurbishment activities. Each on-site team is lead by a senior supervisor with over 15 years of experience with both fossil and hydro machines. Additionally, alliance partnerships give NEC additional workforce muscle in meeting customer needs.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT TEAM

Our Project Management Team, made up of experienced six highly experienced engineers and technicians, is lead by a licensed professional engineer with over 25 years of experience with major projects. Each team member bring years of practical experience to his job in one or more areas, such as generator design, testing and inspections, repair and retrofit services, materials management and information management.
